L'affare®

Fresh Packaging

In 2020 L’affare commissioned me to produce an original artwork for the launch of their new soft plastic recyclable packaging into supermarkets nationwide. Established in 1990, L’affare is a pioneer of New Zealand’s celebrated café and coffee culture.

The artwork captures one of people behind the L’: Dave Green. Welcome to Dave’s World. 10 objects. 10 stories. A commemoration of a lifelong love of coffee and a decade in the industry. Each object is both a deeply personal and symbolic homage to the journey of their Coffee Specialist, David Green and equally open to individual interpretation. The nut…the spinning top…two rings…corrugated cardboard…the wheel…the grapes or coffee cherries…the pane of glass…an abstracted beaker…a foundation…the void, or the unknown.

“As an artwork, Dave’s World is an extension of a very raw, very new way – for me – of making a piece of art that is effectively a collection of shapes that have been abstracted and computer-generated....each object has a core story behind it, but the individualistic nature of the artwork means that everyone looking at it can bring their own interpretation and apply their own story to each object” — Thomas Mackisack
